It's an issue with all older .357 K frames, especially with hot 125 grain .357 ammo. The "new" model 66 eliminates this thin "flat" design. It is closest to the King Cobra at 33.5 ounces, compared to 28 ounces for the Colt. The S&W "L" frame is closer to the Python, at 40.5 ounces.Try googling "Python rib scope mounts", or similar. There were several companies (B-Square?) who made optic mounts that clamped on the ventilated rib. I have similar on my HS .22 Victor's rib, and the mount works well. King cobra now that they make the python in a 3 inch is fairly similar, however I would say the KC is more of a carry gun, python is more of a range gun. It has better sights then the KC, and more then likely a solid frame. Both great guns, but for me if I chose a python I’d get the 4.25 inch barrel instead of the 3 inch 686 has larger frame than King Cobra. It's not a direct comparison.
